Rose Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens) is sometimes confused with Citronella because of the similar leaves. Rose geranium has a rose scent underlaid by a slight lemony one. While the citronella plant has a strong medicinal, lemon scent. Rose geraniums typically have smaller pink or purple flowers, whereas the citronella geranium has larger, showier pink flowers with deeper purple markings on the upper petals. The essential oil from the rose geranium is highly prized for soap and perfume as well as medicinal purposes.
This plant is an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, and an antimicrobial. It's a natural remedy for skin health, stress reduction, and pain relief, especially the essential oil (make sure to use it diluted with another oil). It helps increase elasticity of the skin and speed up healing of wounds. Use it in a diffuser or steam therapy to help with respiratory issues and can be used to reduce anxiety/stress and calm the mind. Rose geranium's analgesic properties can help with pain reduction when applied topically.
As for its uses in witchcraft, it's helpful with balancing energies and with emotional harmony. Use it in love and attraction rituals, as well as fertility rituals. It's associated with Venus and the Element of Water.
